About Everything But The Girl

Missing was first issued on Amplified Heart in 1994, the duo’s eighth studio album. The album was primarily acoustic, and the song became much more famous after Todd Terry’s remix was released as a single in 1994, then reissued in 1995 as the version that crossed over to pop, dance and adult contemporary audiences. The remix mattered because it arrived when Watt was recovering from a serious autoimmune illness and the group had been dropped by their label, so the unexpected club response helped reset their career. Interviews with Thorn and Watt describe the remix as a turning point that pushed them toward the electronic direction they later explored on Walking Wounded.
